Star Micronics will also be demonstrating its extensive portfolio of label, barcode and kiosk printers as well as re-writable card reader/writer systems.
Retailers have often shied away from incorporating graphics into receipts given that it has taken up to three times longer to print a receipt. Recognising this, Star Micronics has revolutionised point-of-sale printer technology by being the first and only manufacturer to design a printer that is capable of printing receipts at an exceptional throughput speed regardless of font used or whether graphics are included. As a result, retailers can now take advantage of modern TrueTypeTM fonts and, more importantly, add profit-making graphics to receipts.

With all accessories and software included in one box, the TSP100 represents a high quality point-of-sale printer offering exceptional value for money. In addition to providing ‘intuitive’ compatibility for Microsoft applications including Java-POSTM and OPOSTM with Microsoft certification (WHQL), all printer features are available from the printer’s properties page in WindowsTM thus enabling all settings to be stored on the PC and easily mirrored across other TSP100 printers in the case of mass system installations. Marketing tools that enable receipts to be simply and effectively re-designed and coupons to be created based on pre-decided ‘trigger words’ and values, without the need for expensive software changes, further highlight both the sophistication and complete versatility of the TSP100.
At Retail Solutions, Star Micronics will also be unveiling its new dedicated label printer with auto peeler, the TSP828. A reliable, high resolution 203dpi direct thermal printer with a small footprint and easy loading capability, the TSP828 is able to print 0.5 metre of labels in just 3 seconds using the auto peeler. Offering a high level of flexibility, the printer provides a fully adjustable label width up to 112mm and label lengths from 30mm to 300mm. Additionally, the TSP828 features dual USB and serial interface with parallel and Ethernet options.
For its latest range of traditional printers Star has developed a new low cost Ethernet interface that will be introduced at Retail Solutions. With extended facilities and at half the normal price, Star has used its expertise in printer technology to produce the most effective Ethernet interface for a Star printer.

Beyond its extensive range of POS printers, Star will also be demonstrating its new generation of visual card systems. Building on the successful TCP300, this latest version is a ‘thermochromic’ visual and magnetic card reader/writer that can be used to erase, re-write or print up-to-date information, loyalty points and special promotions on a standard ‘credit-card style’ 760 micron Leuco card. Developed to be re-written up to 500 times, the cards can also be updated with high quality text and sophisticated graphics including barcodes and photos within just 4 seconds. Furthermore, the TCP400 provides the option to include a RFID chip for wireless applications.
Annette Tarlton, Marketing Manager, Star Micronics Europe, comments “At Retail Solutions 2006 Star Micronics will be the largest exhibitor of POS printers given its extensive portfolio and position at the forefront of innovative POS printer technology.”
